Ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid star Michael Essien does not see himself switching his football jersey for a fancy suit in the dugout after retirement.

The former Black Stars midfielder is currently seeing out his career in Indonesia where he turns out for Persib Bandung.

The current Black Stars technical team is made up of former Black Stars players. Kwasi Appiah (head coach), Ibrahim Tanko (assistant), Maxwell Konadu (assistant), Stephen Appiah (Technical coordinator) and Richard “Olele” Kingson (goalkeepers’ trainer) have all previously played for the Black Stars team at various stages.

But Essien, 34, is not looking to follow in the footsteps of his teammates, preferring to spend time with his family after he hangs up his boots.

“I don’t know, I don’t think I can be one [a coach].

“Maybe I will just leave football & enjoy time with my family,” he said.

Essien has not officially retired from the national team but has not played since 2014 when he came on as a substitute in Ghana’s 2-1 loss to the USA at the World Cup.
