VIDEO: Donsah scores for Bologna as VAR denies Chibsah’s Benevento a point

A solo effort from Ghana midfielder Godfred Donsah decided the match when compatriot Yusif Rahman Chibsah’s newly promoted Benevento hosted Bologna in the Serie A on Saturday.

Chibsah, who was influential in Benevento’s qualification to the Italian topflight, was relegated to bench duties for the entire duration of the game.

It was a chaotic first ever Serie A match at the Stadio Ciro Vigorito and the atmosphere was pumped up for this domestic debut.

Bologna had a series of injury problems and Mattia Destro missed a sitter before Donsah scored a coast-to-coast goal running from inside his own half in the 55th minute.

Benevento poured forward and repeatedly tested goalkeeper Antonio Mirante.

There was even a bizarre scene when referee Giampaolo Calvarese had to be replaced due to an injury, but stand-in Daniele Chiffi proved decisive in stoppages.

The substitute referee viewed a VAR footage to rule a last-gasp equaliser by Fabio Lucioni offside.
