Nyantakyi cleared for Fifa Council elections

Ghana FA President Kwesi Nyantakyi has been passed fit and proper for another shot at the Fifa Council position after the world football governing body run an eligibility checks on candidates for the Africa slot.

Africa will be electing new members to the Fifa Council during the 39th Caf Ordinary General Assembly in Addis Ababa on March 16.

Fifa, in a communication to the Confederation of African Football (Caf) on March 6, said its Governance Committee has cleared 10 of 13 candidates whose associations presented their nominations to contest for the seven slots available for the continent.

Caf President Issa Hayatou who has been a Fifa Council member since 1990 leads the pack of 10 including Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The rest are: Mr. Ahmad, Mr. Constant Omari Selemani, Ms. Lydia Nsekera, Mr. Leodegar Chilla Tenga, Mr. Almamy Kabele Camara, Mr. Hany Abo Rida, Mr. Tarek Bouchamaoui and Mr. Augustin Sidy Diallo.

Meanwhile, the Fifa Governance Council also said it has taken note that the respective member associations have withdrawn nominations for Chabou Goc Alei (South Sudan), Kalusha Bwalya (Zambia) and Daniel Alexander Jordaan (South Africa).
