Nyantakyi is still the right man to lead Ghana football – Afriyie

Vice President of the Ghana Football Association, George Afriyie, has thrown his weight behind his under-pressure boss Kwesi Nyantakyi claiming he is still the right man to steer Ghana football forward.

Nyantakyi has been under immense pressure from the media and football fans across Ghana to step down after a poor showing of the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon. But Afriyie is backing his boss to continue as Ghana FA president.

“Everyone is entitled to his views. One thing I believe is the fact that Kwesi Nyantakyi has served Ghana football for the past 12 years after his mandate was renewed and set to expire in 2019,” Afriyie told Nhyira FM.

“Personally, I think that he still can do the job. We can always make sure to improve upon things that hasn’t gone well in the past.

“I don’t buy into people’s idea of wanting to force him out of office with demonstration. Clearly, I don’t see how this thing is going to be possible.”

Kwesi Nyantakyi stepped into office as FA Chairman in 2005 and has taken Ghana to three successive World Cups in 2006, 2010 and 2014 respectively.
