GFA explains reasons behind UAE trip

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Monday afternoon revealed reasons for pitching the Black Stars in UAE, preferably in Al Ain ahead of the 2017 AFCON tournament in Gabon.

At the unveiling of a 26-man provisional list at the GFA conference hall, President of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi said, they sat down, planned and considered all other factors before settling on the UAE for their 12-day pre-tournament training.

The GFA were forced to justify their choice of training camp after journalists questioned the prudence in camping outside of Africa for a tournament in Africa.

“The climatic conditions in Al Ain in January are about 25º. Temperature is about 25º C during the day and can go down to about 15º in the night,” Nyantakyi said at the press conference.

“Places like Equatorial Guinea during January will be 21º and in Gabon during January will be between 28 and 31º C,” he added.

“We also needed to choose a place with excellent training, sporting and hostel facilities.”

According to media reports, an advance party has been dispatched and headed for Gabon to make preparations for the team before they arrive on the 13th of January.

The Black Stars are in group D alongside Mali, Egypt and Uganda.
