GPL PREVIEW: AshGold, Edubiase aim to rekindle Adansi Derby

Ashantigold, Sunday afternoon, face off with rivals New Edubiase in a match day 23 of the 2015/2016 Ghana Premier League fixture at the Len Clay Stadium.

This game will usually be the headline among the weekend clashes but in a season where both clubs are under performing, it tends out to be just one of the other games.

New Edubiase, who in late 2014 adopted Len Clay as their home venue, have now moved to their original stadium at Bekwai (Nana Gyamfi Park) after it was approved by the Club Licensing Board of the Premier League Board.

The first of this derby this season ended 2-1 in favour of Ashgold who were the visiting side at the Len Clay Stadium courtesy goals from Francis Adjei and Anthony Yerful for the mines and Abdul – Wahab Annan for the Yenk) nkoaa lads.

From 2010 till date, they have been involved in 13 games in the local league; Ashgold has the upper hand winning 8 of these games as against 3 for New Edubiase with 2 ending in a draw with Ashgold recording 17 goals and 13 goals for New Edubiase.

The major talk after the first game was Coach Anthony Commey of New Edubiase lamenting over their missed chances and supporters will find out on Sunday if he has worked on his boys’ finish.

The Bekwai based club has won only one game (0-1 against Kumasi Asante Kotoko) from eleven games played so far, drawing 6 and losing 4 games.

The defending champions also have only one away win which was against New Edubiase themselves and managed only three wins with the rest ending in draw.

New Edubiase have recorded 15 goals after 22 games, making them the lowest scoring side in the league but has recorded a win in their last five games as against an Ashgold side that is yet to record a win in their last five.

Despite the performance of these two clubs, the rivalry and bragging right on the day is something both will fight for come Sunday at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
