Defending champions Ashantigold and leaders Hearts of Oak settled for a 1-1 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium. The Miners came from behind through Anthony Yerful after the Phobians had struck early via a penalty by captain Robin Gnagne. Coach Sergio Traguil’s outfit stand four points clear at the summit by the draw. The away side couldn’t take advantage of a numerical advantage after Inusah Musah was dismissed late in the game.
Bekwai witnessed a thrilling action on coach Michael Osei’s return to the venue when his Asante Kotoko side played former club New Edubiase. Edubiase recorded yet another victory over the Porcupines on Wednesday to make it back-to-back wins in the season following a 1-0 triumph in the first round clash in Kumasi. The matchday 22 tie ended 2-1 in favour of the home side, who shot into the lead through Tawfik Mohammed. Amos Frimpong equalized for Kotoko from the spot but Nasir Lamin similarly netted from a penalty to seal victory for the bottom-placed club. Winless in six games, Kotoko are now six points adrift of leaders Hearts.
At Dawu, Dreams FC capitalized on Kotoko’s slip to move to third following a 4-0 thrashing of Berekum Chelsea. Dreams dominated play from start to finish as on-loan Kotoko player Abeiku Ainooson put them in the lead from the spot. The debutants struck three more times courtesy of Emmanuel Hayford, Eli Keke and Michael Sarpong.
Ebusua Dwarfs, after claiming four points from a possible six in matches against Kotoko and Ashantigold, recorded yet another victory at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast, picking maximum points at the expense of Wafa. In-form striker Bright Luqman led the attack against the Academy Boys and scored his sixth goal in seven Premier League starts to secure all three points for the mysterious boys.
Liberty Professionals, after a loss to Aduana Stars last weekend, thumped Sekondi Hasaacas 4-0 at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park. A hat-trick by Latif Blessing puts him on top of the scorers chart with 13 goals. Felix Addo fetched the other goal.
Techiman City played Bechem United away at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park but returned empty handed in the wake of a 2-0 reversal. Goals from Abednego Tetteh and Yaw Arnol settled it all for the Eagles.
In the final game of the afternoon, All Stars lost to Inter Allies away at the Tema Park. In their quest to move out of the relegation zone, the Eleven-Is-To-One recorded a 2-0 victory but, nonetheless, still find themselves in the bottom three. Goals came from Enoch Adu and midfielder Gockel Ahortor. The Northern Blues, despite the loss, still occupy the second position although now four points below leaders Hearts.
