“Board and management must resign” – Kotoko ARCC leader demands

‘’Kotoko’s problem is nothing but managerial and that is obvious. It’s our leaders who have failed to manage the team well that is why our information are always leaked to the public. If someone is to leave the team then it’s the board and the management looking at the way they are managing the club. The shame they have caused the team since last year is very bad. That has affected the team’s performance greatly’’ Obeng Sekeye, Ashanti Regional Circles Council Chairman of Asante Kotoko SC.

Obeng Sekyere, leader of Asante Kotoko supporters’ wing, the Ashanti Regional Circles Council (ARCC), has taken a swipe at the club’s Board of Directors and the Management, stating that they should honourably resign from their positions due to the “shame” they have caused the club.

The unimpressive results churned by the Porcupine Warriors in the ongoing Ghana Premier League have led to the sacking of head coach David Duncan – a decision that has led to divergent views among the club’s board and management. Following the club’s 0-1 loss to Aduana Stars last weekend at Dormaa, the Opoku Nti-led management informed David Duncan to ‘step aside’ for his deputy Michael Osei to take charge until further notice. But Duncan defied the orders of his employers, noting that there’s no clause of that nature in the contract between the two parties.

On Tuesday morning, David Duncan went to the team’s training ground at Adako-Jachie to carry out his legitimate duty but interestingly, the players as well as the other technical men failed to report because management had ordered them to have the morning’s training at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium without the knowledge of Duncan.

The unpleasant situation made the Life Patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II pay an unannounced visit to the team on Tuesday evening during their training session at Adako-Jachie, to show his concern and also help calm the situation down in order to ginger the players to up their performance and lift the team from their precarious position on the league log.

And Sekyere, who heads the supporters’ wing of the Reds in the Ashanti Region has blamed the club’s hierarchies as the cause of the team’s unending predicaments. According to him the board and management lack the requisite modern skills and technical know how to manage a club like Asante Kotoko.

That has affected the team’s performance greatly,’’ Sekyere said to Kumasi-based Bohye FM.

‘’If you’re managing a company, as a manager you should be able to solve every problem that arises internally. So for me I blame the management and the board. They are unable to manage Kotoko and as a result it’s affecting the club.

‘’I cannot say sacking Duncan is good or bad, but I believe that whichever problem encountered by the team should be solved by the managers of the club. They should have solved it internally. For the supporters all that we seek is for the team to win. We don’t care who takes the team into a game, all that we want is victory.

Sekyere also indicated that the problems of Kotoko might be above the technical team since it was the same poor outcomes of matches played by the club that led to the sacking of Didi Dramani.

‘’So I think the problem of Kotoko is beyond the technical team if you ask me because we suffered same last season. I think they didn’t do any due diligence because it was the same issue that led to the sacking of Duncan’s predecessor. And that’s why I’m saying the board and management should leave because they have failed to solve the problem at hand.”

Asante Kotoko are on 5 points out of a possible 18 after six rounds of matches and are languishing at the foot of the 16-club league. The face Liberty Professionals at home on Sunday.
