Medeama SC head coach Tom Strand has praised the efforts of his players in their CAF Confederations Cup round of 32 first leg loss, claiming it’s a favorable results for his team.

The Yellow and Mauves lost by 1-0 to Libyan outfit Al Ittihad Tripoli in Sfax on Sunday.

Medeama conceded through the spot after a penalty was awarded the Libyan side after 48 minutes of play, but Coach Tom Strand says the results is a pleasant one as the second leg comes off in two weeks’ time.

“It was a very difficult game but we played very well. I have to give some credit to Malik Akowuah. He saved us a couple of times and it was a fantastic game from the players today. It was a good experience for Medeama; we lost the game but we are not used to this kind of experience so this is good for us,” Strand told Joy Sports after the game.

“It is going to be a different story I hope. We need to score at least two goals and keep a clean sheet to qualify. There are different scenarios but together with Ghanaian fans, we will stand up to be strong and win the match,” Strand said.

When asked whether the Libyan side will could win in Ghana according to the Ittihad Tripoli coach, Strand admitted they are a good side that could pose a threat but he trusts his players to qualify.

“They have a strong team and some more experienced players than us but they (Medeama players) will keep it up in Sekondi-Takoradi,” Tom Strand stated.

Medeama will host Al Ittihad Tripoli on March 27 at the Essipong Sports Stadium in Sekondi for the return fixture.
