Asante Kotoko will be without five key players for their opening game of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League due to various degrees of injuries.
The porcupine warriors who have enjoyed an impressive pre-season run are hopeful of kick starting the new season on a high note as they play guests to the West Africa Football Academy (WAFA) in Sogakope on Saturday.
But they will have to contend with the absence of influential striking duo Dauda Mohammed and Kwame Boateng, wingers Frank Sarfo Gyamfi and Azeko Mandela as well as midfielder Jackson who suffered a leg break during a kickabout last Sunday.
Head coach David Duncan has selected 20 players for the season opener which includes nine new signings.
These players – Ernest Sowah, Edwin Tuffour Frimpong, Evans Quao, Richard Osei Agyemang, Theophilus Nyame, Stephen Nyarko, Michael Yeboah, Bennett Ofori and Burkinabe import Halipha Sedogo will be hoping to land their league debuts for the 23-time Ghanaian champions.
The Kotoko contingent arrived in Accra Thursday morning and have scheduled to train at least once on the astro turf pitch of the Tema Stadium before heading to face WAFA on Saturday.
The WAFA-Kotoko season opener will be telecast live on SuperSport. Kickoff is at 3pm.
