GPL: Hearts rake in over GH¢ 61k on match day 1

Accra Hearts of Oak raked in a ‘whopping’ GH¢ 61,706.00 amount from gate proceeds when the Accra based side faced New Edubiase in match day one of the 2015/16 Ghana Premier League.

The Bekwai based side last season gave the Phobians a run for their money with back-to-back defeats – 2-1 score lines both home and away.

But that wasn’t to be this season as Coach Kenichi Yatsuhashi led his side to win 1-0 courtesy an 82nd minute goal from Sam Yeboah.

Public Relations Officer of the Hearts of Oak, Opare Addo revealed “Hearts grossed GH¢ 61,706.00 at the gates on Sunday, apart from games against Kotoko, it is the highest we’ve recorded in about 5 years.”

He also confirmed the club had settled all outstanding arrears to players after receiving GH¢ 500,000.00 from Board Chairman Togbe Afede XIV.

“The Board Chairman gave us GH¢ 500,000 to pay up all the outstanding monies to the team. All the new players have received their bits of sign-on fees for the season likewise already existing players. Outstanding salaries have also been settled. We are still in February so we only owe players for this month,” Opare Addo mentioned.

Hearts of Oak travel to face Medeama at the T&A Park in a match day 2 fixture on Sunday. The game will be live on SuperSport TV.
