2015/16 GPL in Review: ‘We shot ourselves in the foot’ – Kotoko’s Jerome Otchere

Associate editor for the mouthpiece of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, the Kotoko Express, Jerome Otchere believes his side blew their chance to winning the just ended 2015/16 league season.

The Kumasi-based side ended the season at 5th position on the table with 46 points – bagging 12 league wins, had 10 stalemates and 8 defeats with a total number of 33 goals and conceded 29 goals.

Jerome Otchere in an interview with Kapital Sports says the team had to make use of the good pre-season they had.

“There were a lot of drama in Kotoko. We had a very good pre-season, so brilliant but unfortunately when the season started, I think we had 5 point from 5 games and it took us 5 games before we won 1 – the Hasaacas game in Kumasi, then we went on, lost to Aduana which brought about the Duncan’s step aside, you know what followed, there were a lot of drama afterwards”.

He added: “I think I have been impressed with Wa All Stars because to be honest with you, I remember after about 5 or 10 matches, I had discussions with people who thought Wa All Stars was going to win the league but I didn’t believe it, in fact I still didn’t believe it even when we were left with 5 matches when they were on top because I believed that Kotoko could overtake them and it’s so disappointing that Kotoko could not get to the top.”

He believes the porcupine warriors had a good opportunity to win the title but failed to make use of it.

“I think that we shot ourselves in the foot a lot of the time because if you look at the number of matches we played, the last five matches of Kotoko, we drew 3, lost one and won one and I think that, that is what undermined the team’s resolve to get to the top.”

Kotoko failed to win any trophy in the season under review as they were also eliminated from the MTN FA Cup quarter finals by fellow premier league club Bechem United.
